Hello everyone,
I can't believe that we are already into the first week of October!
It was great to see so many families stop by for meet the teacher night. The kids were all very excited to show you their classroom for the year. If you were unable to make it, feel free to stop by and say hello.
Div 2 did some amazing charitable work in September. As a class we were able to raise $110.10!! I told the kids for every $50 raised I would take a pie to the face for Cancer research and I'm looking forward to honouring that this week. We also took part in a shoreline cleanup with Divisons 1, 3 and 4. This was an amazing event for the community and we were rewarded with some nice weather for playing on the beach afterwards.
The office is asking that parents pay ($5.00) online or with cash for this years planners.

Language Arts
Read to me – Chapter 2 of our classroom novel Hatchet. Students will learn to read comfortably out loud in small groups. We will discuss comprehension questions and focus on our reading fluency (the speed that we read).
Spelling – Students will be looking at enhancing their vocabulary and phonetic awareness by studying a section of words throughout the week, learning the definition and how to use it in context. On Friday we will have a spelling check in where students will check in to see if they can write the word and accompanying sentence. Here are this week's sentences below:
1. The bus driver's abrasive tone made the excited children settle down in their seats.
2. Dehydration from the drought has caused the plants to wilt.
3. Mrs. Carson’s science class conducted an experiment on solar energy.
4. Arthur's endeavour to score twenty points a game throughout the season was a success.
5. While the doctor described the series of painful tests she would need, Cheryl grimaced only once.
6. The store's inventory of sheets and blankets was very low after the winter sale.
7. The simulation of a natural gas explosion gave the local emergency crews a chance to practice rescue procedures.
8. Smallpox was so pervasive in the eighteenth century that many people succumbed.
Writing – Students will be given a number of visual writing prompts and will be asked to create a brief summary of a story they are going to write. Students will have peer edits done on their summary and edit their own work for clarity, understanding and grammar.
Technology – Students will be introduced to the online reading platform Epic. They will discover some mystery stories online.
Inquiry – Students will read an article from an informative non-fiction source. They will be asked to create a double sided journal. This process will allow them to carefully select important information and explain why they chose that section of writing.
